Timing Your Trip

The 5-Hour Jump

Ireland operates on Irish Standard Time (IST) during the wedding festivities. For our guests coming from the East Coast (Miami/NYC), Dublin is exactly 5 hours ahead.

The Math

  • If it’s 9:00 AM in Miami, it’s 2:00 PM in Dublin.
  • If it’s 5:00 PM in Miami (end of workday), it’s 10:00 PM in Dublin (prime pub time).
  • If it’s 11:00 PM in Miami, it’s 4:00 AM in Dublin.

Good News on Daylight Savings: While both the US and Ireland change their clocks in late October/early November, those changes happen after our wedding weekend. You don’t need to worry about the time gap shifting while you are there for the big day—it will be a consistent 5-hour difference!

✈️ The “Red Eye” Strategy

Most flights from the East Coast to Dublin are overnight “Red Eyes.” You will depart in the evening and land in Dublin early the next morning.

The Golden Rule: Do not go to sleep the moment you check into your hotel!

  • Land & Move: Drink a coffee, drop your bags, and walk around St. Stephen’s Green.
  • Stay Awake: Push yourself to stay awake until at least 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM local time on your first day. This is the fastest way to reset your internal clock.
  • Hydrate: The Atlantic crossing is dehydrating; drink more water than you think you need.

Coordinating with Home

If you need to call home, remember the “Safe Window”:

  • The Best Time: Between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM Dublin time. This is 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in Miami—everyone is awake on both sides of the pond.
  • The Danger Zone: Don’t forget that when you are sitting down for a late-night Guinness at midnight, it’s only 7:00 PM back home. Your friends in Miami are still very much awake and likely to respond to your WhatsApp messages!

🕒 Tech Tip

Your smartphone will update its clock automatically as soon as you connect to the Irish network or Wi-Fi. If you wear a “dumb” watch, remember to move it forward 5 hours before you land so you don’t miss any of the scheduled transport or events!
